Lost Pirates

"Lost Pirates" is a level built using UDK for the World of Level Design Pirate Challenge. The challenge gives designers a set of pirate assets and materials "to create a visually and interesting environment". Following is the design document for the contest:

Lost Pirates
Summary
Level Concept:
“Lost Pirates” is an environment map for a contest on “World of Level Design” where a designer “is to create a visually appealing and interesting environment using UDK and the custom assets” provided. No gameplay is required, but I plan on designing a small puzzle to lead to the pirate’s treasure.
I decided the focal point of the map will be a shipwrecked boat half emerged into the sand. As the player explores the area, they will find that the first thing these pirates built was a bar made out of parts of their ship. The island will primarily be jungle, except for the rock cliff to the right side of the island scene.
                Level Story:
“So this be where the treasure is hidden?”
“Aye, long and hard was the journey but the map has lead us to t’ere ship.”
“Not much to it, eh? And what is that? A bar? “
“Har. We knew we be in the right place now!”
“Where’d ye think the treasure be?”
“Hell if I know! Let’s take a look around and see if we can find a scallywag!”
“By the looks of it, this be an abandon crash capt’n.”
“Then scour the beach and don’t return without me treasure!”

Map Design
The following picture sums up the map. I saw this and knew I had my environment[1]:

The focal point will be the dilapidated ship. The ship would have a door and the player will see that it was used as shelter.  This has a door cut into the boat at beach level that the player will be unable to unlock. Inside will consist of a few crates, a makeshift hammock and empty rum bottles.
The next area would be the bar. This would be constructed out of parts of the ship and ship cargo: crates would from the foundation of the bar with ship planks placed over the crates. The pirates brought over stone stools to sit on. The roof will be a mix of leafs and sparsely placed ship planks. The back wall of the bar will contain a shelf with empty bottles of rum and a key.
Close to the bar will be a fire pit and a shaded table. The fire pit has planks in it and a currently burning fire, surrounded by stones. The shaded table is much like the bar: stone seats, a create table and a shade made out of planks from the ship.
There will be one large tree north of the ship with a knot in it and to the north of that will be a large rock wall. To the left of the rock wall will be a dense tropical forest that curves around the beach scene to meet the water on the other end. These will act as the boundaries of the level.

  ***Spoiler***

Puzzle: The puzzle will consist of collecting the key from the bar that opens the door to the pirate ship. This will allow the player access to the steering wheel. The player will place this into a knot on the tree, twist it three times to tighten a chain link that will topple the rocks on the cliff to reveal an empty box with a note saying: “What did ye expect?” The player will throw this into the fire which will reveal the real treasure in the bar.

Drawing to define more of what was going into the level, very much similar to the photo above.
