Construction

Did a little more work on the street today, keeping in mind that I may have enemies run out to the street to fight.



Added a little more light to see better in this area. I made the hole deeper and added the dirt patch that I mentioned last time. The stacks of red pipes are crouch cover height. I may need to add a little more cover in the area but if its quick two to three guy confrontation this should be fine.

The Street

The first thing I did was moved the player across the street from the hotel, giving the player a longer and more head-on approach to the building. To keep the player within the play area, I made the street under construction due to a busted water main. This allows me to put barriers on either side of the play area:


I spent a majority of the time working on the hole with the water main. The only issue is that there is no lighting in this area so the player can't see any of the hard work I did:

Until I do a little more lighting I took a fullbright shot to show the hole:

The street is a lot more interesting, giving me an idea that the initial combat could start here. I'll see how it feels once I get this area a little more arted up. I want to add a pile of dirt to one side, maybe a few more barriers and some type of work truck. I also might make the hole deeper because the pipes are pretty close to the surface.

There's a lot of work to get the gameplay halfway decent.

  • Spawn enemies in waves.
    • Maybe retreat some enemies.
  • Pathing needs to build and the enemies need to use it.
  • Allow the player to enter the building before enemies start firing.
That would be a good start.

Revisiting Hotel

I'm revisiting "Hotel". I would like to use what I have learned at Raven to update the art and gameplay of this map. I took some screen caps of the level so I can have a before and after look at the map. Here are the before shots:










This was the last map I worked on before becoming an intern at Raven so I'm excited to see what I can do. If I can find a way to do a cheap video capture I'll through that up here too.

I can't tell when I had this progress done, sometime in January or February, but here are some shots of after I filled in the area attempting to get it ready for a final showing:


I'm going to do some more blending work throughout the map and do some final screen caps hopefully by the end of the night.
